With many thanks to member superbee, we were able to locate from an estate sale, a rare "all correct" Australian No.1 MkIII* H.T. Sniper Rifle (Medium Bracket), to go with ~Angel~'s current Australian No.1 MkIII* H.T. Sniper Rifle (Short Bracket), which is displayed in the Australia - Knowledge Library

It's on its way, but here's a few pics provided by the vendor, which will do until we can shoot a full photo montage similar to her current "short bracket" piece.

Qty Converted: ............. 1,612 completed out of contract for 2,500 by Lithgow 1944-46 & 1954-55
.................................... 481 (Short Bracket)
.................................... 1,131 (Medium Bracket)

(Note: The first batch went into stores in November 1944 and the last in February 1946.
This rifle serial #40068 - Date to Stores was March 15th, 1945

Is your Mk5 a pre production? I see it dosnt have a forward band around the bayonet cap.

It originally had, but was missing the the forward band, I just last week received a band I ordered from EFD in England last week, so I'll put it on and make it look right.

Congrats on getting the second HT!
Just for giggles I got some of Angel's rifle's details from the pics and put them into my survey spreadsheets. Looking at the date 15th March, there were 12 rifles completed and sent to stores on that day. I have entries in my survey from three of them. One is in good complete condition and currently resides in the Australian War Memorial collection. Another also looked pretty good still (privately owned) while the third had been sportered. It was converted to 303/22, had the original butt and foreend cut down and checkered. It didn't have the scope, but the mount bases were still on it. It sold at auction in Sept '04, but I haven't heard of it since...

With many thanks to claven2, we were able to locate from estate sale, a very rare piece of Canadian history with an "all correct" and in superb condition, "all matching" 1915 Ross MKIII sniper rifle serial #223 complete with its matching Warner and Swasey scope No. 18, 1913 patent. The stock is also stamped "SCOPE NO 18" and the scope base on the rifle is also stamped "18". The original tooled leather case for the scope is C-Broad Arrowed marked and stamped with both the scope serial number (18) and the rifle number (223).

This sniper rifle is from the first 250 batch ordered by the Canadian Government and being "SCOPE NO 18", it would have been very early in the production run of these rare rifles, with not very many surviving all these years.

We've taken a few temporary pics, however, in the next month or so, we'll create a highly detailed and more complete photo montage showing all the markings etc., for inclusion within the Canada section of the main Knowledge Library.
