    No4 Mk1 (T) Trials rifle front sight

Just noticed that beside the waisted front sight protector being different from later 4's on my un-modified trials rifle that was converted to a "T", but also the front sight itself is different. Is that small bar a means of adjusting the sight or to remove it or neither? Ray

The "bar" is the head of a reverse screw. It uses a slotted driver instead of a chisel type driver.

That "reverse" screw in your picture, with the help of a slotted screwdriver is used to "tension" the front sight in place, so it won't drift while firing or get knocked out of position. The front sight can be easily drifted out for replacement, with a wider or narrower sight, without marking or damaging the sights.

It's definately not a wider or narrower sight blade Bearhunter and others, it's a lower or higher sight blade.
And remember too that if you have a screw in the block band foresight to clamp the sight blade firmly, then you MUST use solid based foresight blades

Thanks gentlemen. I kind of thought it needed a slotted screwdriver for the bar but wasn't sure the purpose, Ray

The sight base itself is different from a regular No.4's (those w/ the screw, not the second variant w/o) in that the threads go all the way throgh the sight base. "Production models" weren't tapped as far.

Plus, it will be Enfield marked.
