I've done my share of winter ops and I never envied those guys. No winter gear, minimum support and no idea of when it would be over.
    Regards, Jim

All the gear available and he is probably still freezing. No where to go to get warmed up. I spent a year and a half in a barracks in Butzbach, Germanyicon with no heat, and thought that was bad!!.

If there was ever a picture that portrayed the hardship endured by the men who fought and won in the winter of "44/45, that would be it. You got to love those guys for their courage.....Frank

    Bulge

At least he has good boots. Not like the burlap bags most of them wore. Seems he slid down that snow bank and took a brief rest.

The first account I read about the Bulge was in the kid's paperback Breakout. Along the way I've read many others, including MacDonald's classic Company Commander. This pic just captures the picture they paint of bone cold and fatigue.

+1 for Bob's "... bone cold and fatigue!" If that's not a 1000 yard stare on SGT Lyon's face, nothing is. He had just come back from Hell!
