"AF" stamp on an Inglis Hi-Power?

What is meant by the "AF" stamp sometimes seen on Inglis-made Hi-Powers? I seem to recall reading that it may indicate the piece so marked is defective; is this correct?

Peter is the source of all knowledge here, and knows a bloke who claims to know the meaning of the 'AF' stamp - a bloke who apparently needs to be plied with sufficient quantities of liquid refreshments to divulge such information.

Someone who didn't know one way or the other made what I consider a very ill-advised comment in a forum that AF "may" mean "At Fault" which is the British equivalent of FUBAR.

The truth is, no one seems to know what the AF marking means (If Peter doesn't know, it is indeed worthless trivia ). It has been the subject of many forum threads. And no one has given even an informed guess.

I've owned several AF marked Inglis Brownings and fired many thousands of rounds through them and they all worked just fine. In fact, my most accurate in my current stable of Inglis Brownings is an AF.

It would be nice to know what it means but it doesn't mean there is anything wrong with them, in my experience.

Common sense says that if it meant there is something wrong with them, lawyers for (allegedly) gravely injured HP owners would be suing every dealer who sold them and they would be long gone from gun shop shelves and that simply hasn't happened.
