1943 Long Branch Lee-Enfield No.4 MKI*‏

I have been looking around on the net for my first firearm purchase. I have always been fascinated with WWII era firearms. So I need some outside expertise to help me learn the ropes of collecting.

I found a Long Branch Lee-Enfield No.4 MKI*‏ with MKIII rear sight and 5 groove rifling for sale that I am very interested in. The seller has informed me that it is all matching and has been refurbished in 1946.

500 greenbacks, too much for an FTR?

I have no Idea of the value of Lee-Enfields. I have a grasp of Mausers... Uncaptured and original K98s you expect to pay a premium. (Michell's Mausers needs a kick in the teeth). Mosin–Nagants are dirt cheap. Springfield M1903s and M1 Garands are WAY too overpriced.

All matching and correct Long Branch Enfields have typically been going for about $500 (Cnd) or so, up here in Canada. Do you have any pics you could post as that would help everyone to give you a better idea...

Ok. Well I have been looking around the net and they are all priced around $400 to $500. So it is expected then.

I would show pictures but my attention has shifted to a 1943 MkI (no star) that I found... But well I wont be getting one anytime soon. I have been getting ahead of myself, I don't even have my PAL yet . Tough to plan purchases of collectible firearms without that.

I just sold an all matching 1944 LB for $225 US. I had owned it for over 10 years. Times are tough so keep your eye out for bargains.

Sounds high to me, but then I'm probably out of touch. For an original standard LB No4 in nice shape I could see that much. For a painted and electro-pencilled UK FTR? Not me, though that's just personal taste as the FTR etc is a legitimate part of the rifle's history.

I paid 600 euros for a matching longbranch no 4 mk1* here in Ireland a year or two ago thats about 680 Canadian dollars and the going rate for one like that here.
