1943 Dated Savage Rifles

I mentioned this in another thread, but did not want to hijack the thread with additional questions/comments.

Up until recently, all of the 1943 dated Savage rifles I have seen were marked on the leftside buttsocket; however, I have now seen two that are marked on the leftside receiver. Based on the data I have collected to date, Savage stopped dating the rifles around 50Cxxxx (although there are dated rifles as high as 60C77xx).

Does anyone know if there was a block of rifles that were dated on the receiver? I am not sure if this is very common or unusual?!
