    Garage Sale Find! Slightly OT

Went garage saling with my wife and came across a real treasure. It is a US Army WWII pith helmet. "international Hat Co." "NXsx 67481(?)" "June 28,1944". It is about 98% (scuff on top of helmet), has all rigging and chin strap, all 100%. It is khaki with medium green interior. I have pictures from my dad of guys on Iwo Jima wearing these. Best part was price: $1 !!!!! Photos to follow.

The pictures really do not do it justice!

RM, I would say a great buy for a doller. I can't tell from the pics, is it a helmet or a hat? Either way it should go in the shadow box, or close by.....Frank

It is made of thin pressboard type fiber, thin but rigid. Thanks, best dollar I ever spent!

If you can find one, even a good repro, they're great for working outside in the hot summer. The only ones I've been able to find the last few years are cheaply built and too thin. A good one isolates your head from the sun really well.

The suspension on this is leather and aluminum, and looks like it really allows circulation. It looks quite effective.

Iwo 1945. A 46th Fighter Squadron P.51 landing, 2 more in the circuit, SUNHAT AND CARBINE, and a B.29 circling. Mike.
