Odd, the far left soldier is wearing the helmet liner only. He's carrying a .45 also.

And it looks like he has a flush nut rear sight - at least I can't see a lockbar.

The fella third from the left with his back to us almost looks like he's got a gas trap.

The helmet liner is probably a substitute for a soft cap. Patrols often ditch helmets for less noise.
