    Tried to learn to ski on a pair of surplus ski's from that era. Not much use either downhill or cross country, but better than nothing. I still have and use a pair of WWII Alaska pattern snow shoes. A bit heavier than modern, but work fine.

    I find it interesting that the soldier has both skis and bear paw show shoes. Seems to me that one or the other would just be extra weight and would have been "lost" about 2 hours after real combat started.
