    M-14/ M-21 stock question

I was just given a military M-14/ M-21 stock by a former SF sniper. He states he kept this stock and two ART scopes when the units M-21's were upgraded with synthetic stocks and improved scopes. The stock appears to be birch rather then walnut and is glass bedded. It is camouflage painted and has the rifle SN on the bottom of the pistol grip. He stated these rifles had camo painted wood hand guards. My question is, with this providence, would this stock be particularly valuable or is it just essentially another rifle stock?

Provenance is on paper. The rest is story and hearsay.

Browning is correct. If you believe the guy's story, then the stock is worth something to you. To anyone else, it's just a hunk of painted wood, and would be worth whatever the going rate is for M14icon stocks. This past January, I bought two nearly new walnut M14 stocks at a gun show in Denver for about $10.00 each--may have actually been a buck or two less.

I purchased one of the refubished at Rock Island M14icon stocks form the CMPicon. It is birch, all metal re-parked and replaced, it still has O.D. paint in the bolt latch recess. It seem quite a few M14 stocks were painted in service.

    Winchester M14 stock

Years ago I found a Winchester M14icon stock that is painted O.D. and with a mark on the butt where the tape with the owners name was placed (basic training ?) also it has the number
W-W 1010263 inside the butt, without P proof too. Looks to be a little oversized for a M14 stock.

Thanks for the replies! I just wanted to make sure this thing wasn't something really special. At least the price was right.
I do believe the background story as he has shown me his DD 214, photos, sniper school certificates, the two other scopes and a bunch of other fairly specialized gear he kept.
