looks like one you can keep to me
That s the original coloration on these blades, it was later polished out to all white, this is a nice early example
The coloration is right for an early blade but the date of the blade - dont know why i said early?? - is well past the date that these came out blued, by this time they were sand blasted and should have a matt surface finish. I never bother with scabbard marks unless they match the balde as so many of these get mixed around with scabbards put on blades just to cover them.
I don't know, from what I've seen I would be suggesting a refurb or touch-up of some kind along the way. Its always hard to say for sure but I just don't think it adds up to being in 'original' condition.
For the bluing on the ricasso to be that good for 93 years of age, you would expect to be seeing markings that were still crisply stamped - these are not, they appear worn and unclear.
The line of bluing is much higher than I would expect to see on a WW1 example and looks to have been applied over the original markings. The large number 82 appears to be a newer marking and is something that I would not expect to find on a WW1 bayonet that has not seen further service. The only numbers on the ricassos should be re-issue dates accompanied by the matching armory inspection marks.
My best guess is a refurb done for WW2 and the 1941 dated scabbard would obviously support that argument. Personally I would prefer they all came with 100% verifiable service history attached - would definitely make things a lot easier.!! Cheers.
Well its with a 1941 Dispersal rifle, so as long as its a UKGovt overhaul, its ok by me..Thx..Andy
