    Australian Rifle Club Question?

    Hi all,

    I found this in a buttstock of a 1942 Longbranch No4,

Can anyone tell me the era these were issued and in what state in Australiaicon?

    Cheers

Thanks, that looks like it !, the hand writing is not flash on the form !

Any idea roughly what decade they would have been issueing these and for what reason?

I was guessing they were issued as confirmation they had not innapropraitely accured the rifle from the military ? and maybe the 50's ?

    Thanks

    Andy

I think they're the old form of the NRA membership card, by which you were exempt from state firearms laws under The Commonwealth Defence Act 1903, for the purposes of shooting with a rifle club under the state rifle club, ie NSWRA, QldRA etc. These/this was in effect until repealed in 1996.
It looks like this one is specific to the rifle, unlike later when it was only specific to the member.

I think it would be from the 50s too. Rifle club members were allowed to own .303s and needed a permit. other rifle owners had to have there rifles converted to .303-22 and .303-25 etc to conform to the laws of the day
    cheers
