A Merry Ross MkII Christmas...

Hi guys,
A few days ago the fellas at a local hockshop I frequent called to tell me they had an unusual defaulted rifle coming up for sale. Turns out it was a Ross 1905 MkII with US markings. I haven't seen a non bubba'd Ross in these parts for several years so it wound up coming home with me today. The bore is excellent but the exterior metal parts are coated with either crusty old grease or light rust (caused by our wonderfully humid climate). The stock hasn't been sanded and all the cartouches are intact. As a bonus she came with a Canadian marked oiler and a US Kerr "No Buckle" sling. Was the Ross .303 the same as the Brit? If so I'm going to try and give her some range time next week. Here are some pics.

Now that is a sweet rifle. Congrats. Excellent score, especially with the appropriate sling. A little gentle use with 0000 steel wool and oil should stop the rust without damaging the finish.

Looks like it was potentially a Canadian Artillery (CA) rifle before being sent south.

And, yes, this rifle will take the same .303 British rounds as your Lee-Enfield. Be prepared, however, that the brass might come out rather round-shouldered, as the chambers on these got hogged out.
