    Winchester Sear?

    Anyone know about a Type 2 sear with a "W" on the side rather than top? Winchester? White Sewing Machine?

    I found three type 2 sears in my Winchester parts bin. Two with W on left and one with W on top behind the hole.

    Is there any authority for the proposition that a W on the side is correct for Winchester? I have War Baby -- it only refers to a W on the top of the sear. Anyone know what Duff, Reisch or Harrison have to say on the subject?

    Authority, yes, me. But that is only if BQ agrees with me.
    I would only trust LR. Disreguard the others unless they all agree.
    Can you tell me where in "War Baby" states the W is on top of Winchester sears. Does it imply that the top is the only place for the Winchester W on sears? I'll email LR and have him change that.
    I need to get out more. Maybe buy some newer books. Or spend my time tearing down carbines and sell them for parts.

    Bubba, page 331 of War Baby indentifies Winchester Type B sear as having hole on top, marked on top with "W". LR does not mention W on side of sear.

    I agree with his 5th sentence Brian. ('Bubba' really does need to get out more)

    Hey, Bubba, where you been lately?
    You been busy running that M1icon carbine conversion to .44 mag. outfit, and milling down dove tails flush for that laser sight system you were developing? I loved the telescoping stocks conversions on those babies too.
    (Saved customer expense by converting their walnut stocks)

    It made a really hot looking rig - especially when you dip coated everything in that day glow pink cammo.

    Well it has been slow for the past year. With the house upside down remodeling, no time for carbines. Then on top of that I had to save $ for planned early retirement. No money for carbines. So I posted on CMPicon that I had some parts to sell and ten people contacted me. Digging out parts for them got me looking at parts again. Soon I may start draging out carbines and catching up on Data Sheets.
    The reason for the post is five to ten years ago IP parts were in high demand. Then Winchester and Rock-Ola parts.
    Now based on the ten who contacted me the most looked for parts are S'G'. Then Rock-Ola almost equal. Inland and Winchester follow.
    I assume with IP parts dried up, S' G' are the next in high demand. This also tells me S'G' and Rock-Ola carbines will bring higher prices than the others in equal condition, even a Winchester.

    I was just razzing you. I did notice you'd been away for a while.

    Some people probably don't remember when you first started posting under the 'bubba' handle a couple years ago and showed photos of those really messed up carbines. (That was funny!)

    I'm glad Bubba's back too. With that said, can anyone weigh in on the original question? Does Reisch or CC newsletter mention a W on the SIDE of a T2 sear? Bill Ricca says that W is definitely not a White Sewing subcontract. Anyone have an original Winny with a side marked T2 (or T1) sear?
