    Headspacing a matching Enfield

Is there a reason to check headspace on a Enfield No4 MKI whose bolt is numbered the same as the receiver? Let's discuss the case wherein a rifle with a very good/excellent bore(not excessively worne)is involved.

I have had Endields checked with headspace gauges by my gunsmith but I wonder if it is a practical safety concern in the case as described above?

It is always a good idea to check the headspace on a second hand rifle. Bear in mind that the bolt heads come in 4 different sizes and can easily be switched, and the rifle may have been rebarreled. It isn't a bad idea also to check that both locking lugs are contacting their seating faces in the receiver correctly.

You might take a look at Milsurps - Headspace 101 for .303's for a different opinion.
