    Unknown trench gun

One of my assignments in the army provided parkerized 12 gauge trench guns with heat shields and a FOLD OUT SPIKE bayonet. I can't for the life of me recall who the manufacturer was. Anybody recognize it? These guns were unfired, and had a large storage of .00 buck brass cased ammo. Yeah, I know. A fortune today. It was 1973.

Was the bayonet a modified Simonov blade? I've seen those mods done to barrels.

I'm not familiar with that. It was long and triangular as I recall like the Kalashnikovs carried. The guns were hammerless and not hump backs. We re-opened Ft. Buchanan PR in 1971 and they were part of our package. I strongly suspect they were in storage possibly Navy, for some years. We never used them. I never saw these bayonets anywhere in other assignments. I believe the riot guns we had in Saigon were model 12's.

Thanks Jim. Im really showing my ignorance on bayonets. I saw a couple of types on SKS rifles in VN. This was the non-blade, I guess you could say. Like a old plug bayonet.

That's what I meant, the spike like the fold out AK. The AK used a blade also in some cases. ANYWAY...I thought that this might be some help but maybe Tom Doniphon can help. He's around here somewhere.

Appreciate the help. Just can't get hose things out of my mind! Kinda like what ever happened to the Singer .45 or Rock-ola carbine I was issued! Thanks again.

You sound like me. I was aware of collectables even when I was a young soldier. When I was a Corporal, my section commander had F.N. # 0L0004 and it was still field worthy. I remember while I was a Platoon Sgt in about 83, I examined my Platoon Commander's F.N. and found it had Mounted Police markings on it. Plus Rockwell hardness test marks that weren't normally present on our rifles. It was a 2LXX50 series. I forget the middle numbers. I remember the odd Browning Hi Power that had the slot for the stock, but none had the tangent sight. One had the slot filled with weld. I remember the .50 cals made by Colt, Fridgidare, AC Sparkplug...

I swear I once saw a Captain in VN with a M-3 grease gun complete with spare 9mm changeover plus the bent .45 bbl for house to house fighting. I always thought the bent bbl was a myth. It was all in a canvas bag fitted for each part. Unbelievable.
