    Could someone identify this buttstock for me?

    Lawrance Ordnance - No.1 Mk.III Butt (Long)

    I dont understand the markings or what sort of wood it would be.

    Proof marks on the buttstock indicate probable Indian origin. Typical Indian timber, don't know exactly what the wood is called but that's sure enough what I think it is.
