Their sportorized french tabatier (sp) muskets. They can be found with steel or bronze breach block assemblies. I've wondered if they might make an interesting conversion to a smaller black powder cartridge.

I have had one of these for years and not quite sure what it was.
Your welcome. A local antique shop has/had a couple of them for years. They were interesting but way over priced. It took me a while to find out what they were. I used to have a link to a web site that you could use to identify black powder cartridge firearms. My understanding is that most were cut down so it israre to find one in full military configuration.

If you take off the lock plate it is probably dated on the backside.
Mine is marked 1857.
Got the side plate off. 1857 there also. Along with a capital M and a small c. All other parts marked 22
Lots of interesting marking on mine, seems like every part has 2 to 6 marks on it.
Have a look under the action when you get a chance.
