    Question Barreled Receiver question

Just got my barreled receiver to build my mid-war weapon. It is Saginaw S.G.receiver serial number 5,861,251, with an undated IBM barrel The barrel has a type III band shadow, and a small sans serif "P" on top of the barrel under the hand guard area. The ME is between 2 and 3. The receiver and barrel finish are close to an exact match in condition, and that is very good+ to excellent-. It is from a CMPicon carbine with no import marks, and based on condition, it was probably a Service Grade before it was parted out.

I realize that the barrel is more than likely a replacement, but I wonder... Is there any record of Saginaw getting a batch of IBM barrels? Between the fact that the condition and finish is are about the same, and the receiver does not look to have enough wear to have had a barrel shot out (unless maybe the barrel was shot, literally!) it makes me wonder.

War Baby does not list any IBM barrels going to Saginaw (S.G.). They do list Saginaw S.G./General Motors, Inland MFG DIV General Motors, Buffalo Arms and Underwood. I hope this helps.

Thanks bill. I figured as much. I was just curious. It's going to be built up with all mid-war Inland parts, except barrel band and Type I rear sight, so it doesn't matter.

If the receiver was re-barreled during a rebuild it may have been reparkerized at that time which could explain the matching finish on the receiver and barrel.

    RM,

On my BR, I am able to compare the finish in the areas which were under front and rear sights with the surrounding exposed areas (Receiver and barrel). This qucik check shows me that not only has the receiver been re-parked, but the barrel as well. Additionally, the front sight area and dove tail area do not match. In short, if those exposed areas do not match but the barrel and receiver now do, you can assume that it has been reparked at least once.

And congrats on your new project - I know you are wanting to add another carbine

It was a bit tricky when I joined. I see a few other member here that use both sites. maybe one of them can be more helpful.
