This Is What I Hate About Most Forums (Except MOPARTS)

Most forums have a handful of egotistical, self-centered, and holier than thou curmudgeons that really only like communicating with each other. All the other unknown’s or newbies are constantly subjected to being "taught a lesson" by these antiquated individuals. Why don't you fossils, for one minute, stop judging people and forcing what you know is right down our throats (it’s not religion). You don't know any of us from atom and couldn’t hold a candle to what I have personally accomplished in life. And if M1icon's is your whole life, than you are a pathetic individual. It’s a hobby boys and girls! Most are here to learn. You were also nimrods at one point in time. Give this bullying BS a rest. You know absolutely nothing about us other than a common interest in M1's.

    Hi Rocky

I am very new at this forum. My experience mirrors yours exactly. I have already left one forum because of this very issue. I couldn't agree with you more. My previous experience has made me give up that part of the hobby I loved the most. I have even sold off my collection that I had just because of the whole experinence left me with a horrible taste in my mouth.

Personally I believe that most people are genuinely nice. However some people get on the computer and all of a sudden have a napolean complex about somethings, especially, when they have things or events in their lives that they have no control over, and now they feel superior, or they simply get a great satisfaction from, belittling people, or trying make them feel smaller.

Some people do offer a good hands up with some information. However, how it is presented can be the problem. People often can't express themselves correctly.

But often times I can read between the lines on what people are saying or writing.

    Cheers
    Adam

    No Dog in this Fight

As we say in Kentucky 'I got no dog in this fight' (I hope) - but for my $0.02:

Rocky - Lighten up, Bud. It's only a forum - not traffic court. If someone is rude, or just doesn't give you the answer you want, just let it go. Maybe he/she has had a bad day or maybe didn't really understand that what you asked is pertinent and important to you, if not others. Let it be and ask whatever you want, whenever you want, as long as it is intended to be pertinent, (mostly) serious and civil. It's the American way.

Everybody Else - Don't be too quick to judge and/or berate a new contributor. He may not have the SOP down but as he reads more of our posts he will get a better idea of expected forum ettiquette (for better or worse). As for the obligatory 'research' before you open your mouth on a forum, I don't agree with the premise but maybe he tried to research and didn't find what he needed. He may or may not be as computer savy as the rest of us. We get about 4 or 5 posts on this forum on an average day. I don't think one arguably inane question is going to make anybody late for super. I emphasize arguably because the question may be very logical and pertinent to the asker, and there's a lot of truth in "the only dumb question is the one not asked'.

We're all here for a number of reasons, all of them important to many of us, fun included. I don't mean to flame anybody but the fact that there are three pages arguing this silly point says volumes. I think everybody just needs to take a deep breath, try to be patient and tolerant with newcomers and, as long as civility and common courtesy prevail, if we don't appreciate a question just let it go unanswered. Peace. Semper Fi. I'm outa here. ChipS
