Looking for info regarding WWII scopes

    Hi Guys,

I am trying to locate a 4X for my rifle. Can someone help me figure out which scope has the most eye relief? I am partial to the Kahles name due to past experience with them.
My rifle was built in 1939, so pre war or thru the 40's is a posibility. Also interested in the brightest optic, best clarity for the time.

The Mignon and H 4x60 look like good posibilities but I need the eye relief and have never handled either.

Scope tube diameter does not matter, although 26mm would be best 26.5 will work too.
Hoping to find one with the #4 Germanicon reticle.

    Any help is appreciated.

I own a early 1945 made Kahles with a low serial number and it is a great scope with clear lenses and it has a 7x power. Kahles told me that this scope must have been produced in early 45 because they have no records to it. They where bombed out in 45. They estimated the value between $ 700 - 1000.

Must it be a original one or can it be a new made 4x Zeiss rebuild?
    Regards Ulrich

    Hi Ulrich,

I'd really like to go original equipment if at all possible, it seems the challenge is competing with others for pricey period correct equipment. There are the Jena 4x's on fleabay that off and on had been considered.
I have located two Kahles 4x60s with the #4 reticle but I just want to confirm the eye reilef will be enough to save me getting my eye brow sewed up.

What eye relief does your 7X have?

I have chatted with Andrea at Kahles in Austriaicon regarding their first model variable which at first they knew nothing about and did not believe me until I sent them pics of one. They went to the effort to contact a retired employee who confirmed the model being short lived. Very nice folks to work with.

Where do you find the Zeiss rebuilds?

    Hi Noel,

my Kahles has a short eye reflief of 50 to 70mm. Yes the folk at Kahles is very helpful. For the Zeiss rebuild ones i´ll have a look and post it.

For reference if anyone else is interested, a contact I talked to has a Kahles Heliavier 4x32, which may be pre war and the eye relief is 3". I am waiting to hear back from another guy with two 4x60s.

Ulrich, I'd suspect your eye relief being shorter due to the higher magnifacation, but that is speculation and nothing more.
    Thansk again for yoru help.

    Noel,

Meopta, the former maker of the ZF39(aka Zielvier) made them as rebuilds. Ask them for the scope.
