    Question Unfamiliar Savage markings

Here is a run o' the mill Savage I picked up a few years ago....one of the returns from Turkeyicon. I'm not terribly familiar with Enfields and was hoping someone here might know about a couple of markings, one just behind the safety and another on the left side of the receiver ring.

A partial "5" or a crescent for Turkey????

Looks like maybe a partial "W" behind the safety ????

The "5" looks like a "5", but that's not much help, sorry! I'll take a SWAG and say the marking behind the safety is an inspector's mark, but perhaps a Savage specialist can confirm.

Otherwise, I'm just glad you retained the stacking rod that the Turks added. It belongs there as part of it's miltary history.

No input on the markings but ...

Nice clean looking Savage JMR. Did you clean her up. Certainly the Turks didn't leave it that way

Thanks! Yes, Any milsurp I get I detail strip, clean and lube. I had just given her a periodic cleaning and a fresh coat of tung oil before taking these pics. On this one I recall that I replaced the sling swivels and front band 'cause they had more rust than I wanted to deal with and the magazine body and spring were damaged so I replaced those as well. FWIW, apparently a Turkishicon field repair involved wrapping a bend of the magazine spring with electrical tape.
