Quite new to this site and like most shooters have collected a great deal of junk. I have an old, single shot .22 retailed by C. Lancaster dating from about 1880. It was originally in .22 short, but chamber errosion resulted in a small sleave being machined in and the rifle being rechambered for .22LR some 10 years ago. This returned accuracy and it fires close on a thousand rounds a year, with cloverleaf groupings at 30m. My eyesight started to give up at the same time and I mounted a small scope on it I had in the back of a drawer- it is Germanand probably from the 1920's. What I am interested in is the mount. This is marked Anschutz, is one piece and has windage adjustment in it. It is designed for quick removal. I was informed some time ago that the mount had military origins from about the first world war. I find this hard to believe as it is so pristine, but looking closer does have me wondering. Anyone know which forum it would be best to place this question in?
