    inland carbine / 19" barrel

    Is a 1944 inland m1 carbine in full military, but with a 19" (non-restricted) barrel still
    considered a military collectible?? It`s as original as ever ( all inland parts ) except for the barrel. Worth keeping?? Shoots great..

    You must be in Canadaicon?

    Everyone has a different idea about what is considered collectible. Some only want the configuration as it left the factory. Some think rebuilds should be left alone because they show the changes as time went on. Some don't care about import marks. The Bavarians require all their local markings, and folks treasure them. Canada requires a longer barrel. Everything that has changed usually has been for a reason and is part of that Carbine's history. The person that owns it makes the choice. You said it shoots great, there is a plus in it's self.

    If the price was right, I'd say keep it and enjoy it.

    I think 'rebuilds should be left alone' because they represent the configuration they were last in while in US service. The Canadian 'civilian' barrel extension unfortunately ruins that aspect of the Carbine because it is no longer in military configuration. And because it can't come from Canadaicon to the US, US collector value is moot anyway. If it could be imported, it would probably sell for about $650.

    Thanks for looking.. I am a resident of eastern Canadaicon. I understand that the 19" barrel is not the `true` military m1 carbine. I paid $350.00 cdn. for it 3 yrs ago and i have had offers of $600.00 for it lately.
    I think i will keep it as JimF4M1sicon suggests. Phil.
