    24/47 arrived today

I ordered an "Excellent" 24/47 from SAMCO on May 24th and it arrived today.

I had to pick it up from UPS as there was a snafu with the address. So I didn't open the box until I got home and I have to tell you, I was blown away. The rifle is in beautiful shape. Of course, I have a bunch of cosmolineicon to clean up, but that's just part of the deal.

The wood almost looks like oak to me, or at least a similar grain configuration. There are minimal handling marks and one large mark on the left of the stock by the rear sling swivel. The bolt, receiver and stock are numbers matching. The magazine plate is not. The Yugoicon crest on the receiver is there, but somewhat faint. The bluing is excellent with just some wear around the muzzle. It's hard to see what the barrel looks like as it's full of grease, but from what I can see, the rifling looks pretty strong.

Anyway, the weather is supposed to warm up, so it will be disassembled and get to catch some rays over the next few days.

If anybody can tell me what type of sling it should have and where to find one, I'd appreciate it.

    Here's some pics:

Hello, she's definitely beautiful! Check out libertytreecollectors.com; they've got a sling section and I think they still have some specifically for 24/47's. Otherwise, pretty much any Yugoicon M24 or even a VZ24 sling would be close enough. They are all very similar, the M48 is the only one that's different and it's closer to a k98k sling.

A great find there man, I used to have one then traded it for something; I've been debating getting another one....

Very nice! The stock is actually elm. Since the original stocks were walnut, that is a later replacement stock, probably put on in the 50s. You'll see most M48s wearing stocks of the same wood. Yours has really nice grain.
The sling? Its a plain leather strap of about 1 1/4" width and some 42" length held at both ends by brass buttons. That's it. The Yugoslavs were nothing if not frugal!

The rifling may not only be strong, it may be brand new, (going on 60). The Yugoslavs rebarreled many of these before storing them away. It may not have been fired since proofing. If that is the case, it may be somewhat erratic for the first 200 rounds about. The new bores need some breaking in to smooth them out.

    What are the rail marking?

    Again, a nice catch!
