I remember well the footage of the marines coming ashore in RVN. So long ago now. Love the pic of the young mudroller about to engage.

Anyone notice the M76 launcher on the M14 in the landing on Da Nang 1965 photo ? USMC did use the M76

My Uncle Hank was there in '65/'66 with the 1st. Infantry Div. He was a 26 years old drafty. He was at the time a Dutch citizen. They went to RVN by boat, when they got there, and got their bags from the ship it turned out that their uniforms were all mildewed. They piled them up and burned them all. All they had for weeks was what they were wearing. They walked into quite a few ambushes at first. Then they caught up with the learning curve of "The Nam". Uncle Hank carried an M60 granade launcher most of the time. He was sprayed with Agent Orange and later had a daughter born with a deformed hand from it. When he got back to the states and was being discharge he was told that he didn't have to serve in a combat zone because he was not a U.S. citizen. He told them he was proud to go, and later went through the process to become a U.S. citizen.
