Bayonet issues

I recently bought a 1942 Maltby No4 Mk1. My 1st Lee Enfield. All original parts except for the bolt. Barrel is not cut, but the bayonet that came with it (a seemingly new No4 MkII) will not fit on the rifle - it's like the hole is too small. I have also tried a No 9 bayonet on it, and it too won't fit. Any suggestions?

You're saying the hole in the spike is too small for the muzzle to fit into? The spike goes on slighty out of square and then slips
onto and rotates slightly to engage the two lugs on the barrel. Are the lugs still there? Can't imagine the muzzle is truly too large to fit the spike. Pictures would be helpful...

Lugs are still there, I can't even get the bayonet down as far as the lugs, no matter how it's oriented. See attached pics - this is as far as I can get either bayonet (No 4 Mk2 or No 9) onto the end of the barrel.[ATTACH]Attachment 25492[/ATTACH]

You have a bulge at the muzzle. Difficult to see but it starts just to the rear of the bayonet socket in the top photo.

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but the barrel is knackered. That's the way the mop flops as we say here in England

Is there a ring in the muzzle? That would expand it enough.
