    M1 Clip Eject Problems

    Hey Guys,

Finally got out today and shot my recent purchase M1icon. Its a Springfield 6-42. It shot great and grouped far better than expected but there was one problem...the clip would not eject itself. It was not a huge problem as I could simply eject it by pressing the button, but still something is not right if it does not eject itself right? I was using USGI clips. All clips were USGI but there was a mix of manufactures and age. I was shooting American Eagle M1 Ammo. I shot a bandolier through it and all 6 times it failed to eject. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

    Thanks,
    Matt

    Matt,
Could be a weak or damaged clip ejector spring. This is part of the trigger housing assembly.
    Hope this helps.

Yes , but they ejected when he pushed the button manually , so that spring's prob'ly OK. Examine how far you have to push to get release. I'd guess the problem is worn or snapped off arms on the front of the clip latch or rear of op rod catch. I am assuming full bolt movement to the rear and it is locked back by the op rod catch , yes? If not fully to the rear , the follower may not be high enough to allow the op rod catch to free the clip latch from the clip.

There is a sticky on this at the beginning of M1/M14icon forum. If Chris' suggestion doesn't pan out then check there. It's not a big thing, just a minor mechanical hitch.

It does have a holbrook device in it. Why is that the case? Is this military or an add on after the fact?

It's an aftermarket add on . It's purpose is to allow single rounds to be loaded for the long range slow fire course. It helps in this by allowing the clip to stay in the rifle and NOT eject on the last ( in this case , only ) round , giving you less to do ( worry about the ejecting clip , tracking it down , reinserting it into your rifle , etc.) . It is also used by a few reinactors or people doing a jungle course or any other reason where ejecting on the last shot may cause you to lose a clip and reloading time is not important.
Just as an aside , I did hit the nail on the head as the device does have it's leg " broken " off. :>)
