Winchester Bayonet Lug Usage

I have a Winchester Serial No. 5,757,XXX that came with a Type III "C" marked bayonet lug on it. It looks to be original to the rifle but looking at different references it would appear that it would be too early for a bayonet lug and should have a Type II band.

Would this serial number be considered late 1944 production?

I was under the impression type III usage started after 6.4 mil but the "C" marking sure is Winchester.

Your carbine is at least six months too early for a Type 3 band. And that's before considering the position of the 'C' stamping (which could make the band postwar). The Carbine Club newsletters give answers (or at least ask better questions) on probably half of the very narrow usage questions that appear on forums. Thanks to their work we know alot more than when the standard references were published. In this case Larry Ruth is the source - he hasn't stood still either. Not to mention 60,000 or so CMP returns and numerous imports to extract data from.

an easy way to tell the post war band is by the spot welds, if they are 1/8 inch dots its probably post war
