    unusual receiver wear?

    Have you ever seen this on a Garandicon receiver?



    It's a Springfield Armory 1943

    That was done during manufacture, it is not wear

    I have seen that on several H&R rifles, and it appears to be an incomplete forging that apparently still passed inspection.

    It starts to appear around 1943

    Yep, undersize raw forging did not have enough metal there to machine. It's not unknown and is also occasionally found at the corners of the heel.
    Real men measure once and cut.
