sniper box ???

just starting on this forum i am ww2 collector and yesterday someone have give me this box for my collection

I saw a box like this on your web site and would like to have more information on it

Welcome to the site...

You have a British built No.15 transit chest for the Enfield No.4(T) sniper rifles. They were also built here in Canada for the Long Branch No.4(T) sniper rifle, but there are subtle differences. You can tell easily which is which by checking out various components as shown in the Milsurp Knowledge Library entry below.

"REAR VIEW" - Canadian built "CHEST.S.A.No.15.MK.1" transit case for No.4(T) Long Branch sniper rifle.

Differs from standard British No.15 transit chest. The Canadian version uses stitched leather carry handles versus double folded ones, plus it has hinge sets with 4 screws instead of 3. (refer to picture virtual tour above for more detail)

How many box were made and is it rare what is the value of this box IT DON'T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE got it for free

They're not that rare, but if you can find someone who has a British Enfield No.4 Mk1(T) Sniper Rifle (click here), however, they are missing the transit chest to complete the set for collector purposes, you might be able to get $50+ for it. If they're desparate, perhaps more, but in my opinion, they aren't worth that much just as a stand alone item.

The bigger problem with these is that the shipping would prpbably cost more than the chest is worth.

If you want to sell it, perhaps take it to a local gun show. I usually see them on tables here in Ontario, as well as C. No.7 (.22 caliber) transit chests ranging from $25 to $75.

You other choice would be to post a "Make an Offer" advertisement here in the Quartermaster Stores (click here), making sure you specify you prefer a local pickup as opposed to shipping it.

The yellow spot was put there by ACME surplus when they bought the rifles in the 60's ...All the rifles sold by ACME had this and it was done by wholesaler to prevent swapping rifles before shipment....

I think I would have to disagree with your evaluation. I have not seen a snipers chest go for $50 for quite some time. These days, one would almost be hard pressed to even find the Cno7 chests for that price.

I would expect a chest as nice as this one, still in it's original coat of paint, to see somewhere between $300 and $550. There are a lot more rifles around than chests, and many guys want to get the complete outfit together.

Personally, I find the array of chests (Enfield, sniper, sten, bren, mag chests, etc...)in my collection to consume the greater part of the gunroom. They may all soon be relegated out to one of the storage sheds outside.

Wow ...

I just picked up a beautiful C No. 7 chest at the last Toronto Militaria Show for $75 and it was in great condition.

I had no idea these old crates had gone up so much, or I would not have passed on the two British No.15 sniper chests he also had on his table for $50 each...

I sure hope he brings them back to the next show as I'll be lined up at the door first in line to grab them.
