1922 Oviedo Short Rifle with Lange Type Sight

All the Spanish rifles and carbines I've seen previously have had the tangent type rear sight, but this one was noticed with a rear sight like a GEWicon 98. Not exactly the same in minor details, but the same idea. Matching numbers, average condition, with the usual "tired" bore. Just a little too much money to buy on a whim, but it seemed odd. Anybody with any insight into why this rifle would have the Lange rear sight unit?

    ETA:

Was it a production change-over, or are they interspersed in the tangent sighted models?

    Yes, production chageover

JM, that sounds like a "first pattern" Model 1916 short rifle in 7x57. Originally made with the "Lange Visier". See Ball. "Second pattern" had the usual tangent sight. So yes, it does seem to have been a production changeover.

I'd see Ball, but currently all I have are Walter, Smith, Olson, Johnson, and some others, none of whom pay much attention to Spanish rifles, much less sight variations. One of these days! No internet purchases until the property tax and the credit card is paid. (I've been bad lately- too much ammo!)
