    Unhappy Type 99??????

I just recently purchased a type 99 in NRA VG condition, with matching bynoet from a ww2 marine vet. He picked it up from the battlefield and sent it home. All parts match. Only one problem I'm having in indentification. It is a early model with the antiaircraft sights, chrome bore, monopod bracket, serial #386XX, third variation, nyoga arsenal. Sorry for the incorrect spelling

Here is the problem - above the chamber is the usual japanese for type 99. But it has no mum!!! IT has not been ground off, it just was never stamped. I cannot find any information as to the missing mum. Can any one help.

No I have never seen one like that. Are you sure it was not ground off and repaired? The only ones I have seen without a mum are training rifles. Maybee someone else wiil know more. Detroit-1

    Type99!!!!!

I rechecked the chamber and even used a high powered magnifier to look at the finish. It was not ground and repaired. The finish is the same over the entire chamber area. The vet I bought if from said he was the one that picked it up after a battle and it has been in his posession since the war. When I asked him about the mum he said it never had one. Nothing else on the rifle connects with a "training rifle". Which I have in a type 38.

I think we need to see some pics!
Most of what I can think... has been discussed... repaired/ training.
However, I am certainly not an expert, and would enjoy looking at an interesting rifle!
I also have a Type 99 "battlefield" pickup.... from Okinawa.
