    SMLE barrel on martini

Not sure if this should be here or the martin forum so I thought I'd try both. I heard at the range on saturday, when I was bemoaning the lack of martini enfield's which have a decent bore, that the thread on the martni enfield action are identical to the SMLE, and that I should get a ME and add in and SMLE heavy barrel Ihave hanging around. Anyone tried this? anyone have any success? is it possible to get the look f teh ME back and fitthe wood to it and how does it shoot?

Why not just have existing barrel sleeved? Saves messing the extractor slots etc.

The threads are the same. Your big issue will be cutting the angle for the extractor lever on the bottom and getting it indexed/headspaced properly. You will probably need a chamber as well.

I had one several years ago. Done with a No1 MkIII* take off barrel. It shot very well. We used it on marmots out to a couple of hundred yards with handloads of course. I even used it in some DCRA events, against the No1 and No4 variants. I never won but came in second several times.

It was especially good at the longer ranges, where we would lay prone at 400 yards, shoot ten shots at the targets on the butts, then pick up the rifles and ammunition, run to 300 yards repeat and do the same at 200 yards and 100 yards. We would then run to 50 yards and shoot off hand at timed targets. Lots of fun with a bunch of great guys.
