    11-313 Garand Picture of the Day



    A rifleman of the 376th Infantry Regiment dashes for cover as artillery starts coming in. Note the smashed trees from previous barrages. Taken in an orchard outside Tettingen, Germanyicon, late 1945.

    Er... sure it doesn't read 1944? The war in Europe ended in May, 1945.

    I think the assault on the Tettingen portion of the Siegfreid Line was around 14-18 January, 1945.

    Don't forget to add ......as the photographer calmly stands in the open fiddling with the settings , framing the shot and taking the picture ..... my hat's off to them , too.

    Actually...photographers would preset their cameras according to the light conditions, and the SpeedGraphics they used had various sighting systems, allowing for quick snaps. When they got the negatives back to development, they could crop there and get a good shot out of a quick "snap shot."
