Some days you shouldn't bother waking up.

I must be going to have a bad hair day today, I know my painlevels are up and I tend to get a bit snappy.
Checking on another forum and lo and behold, HEADSPACE.
That same old question, can I just use a field gauge? don't you just feel like smacking them around the ears? no wonder I've got a flat forehead, I'll bet SON has spotted this too.
Maybe we should'nt need gauges at all, after all, with 'O' rings and tape and stretchy brass.... or should we just ask the ammo manufacturers for a range of case lengths for a bit of variation?
Maybe I should go back to bed.

I tried to put it all into a little perspective on a post there earlier in the week AGAIN! I think their ears and eyes are painted on! I do persevere over there a fair bit because they do get a lot of newbie traffic and. well, honestly the guidance they are getting isn't the best around generally. Someone will direct this poor soul to their reference section, he will discover his chamber is banana shaped, machined out of round and had several indian upgrades designed to make it unsuitable for live fire... he will then put on a new bolthead and deem it safe and sell it to his mate as a rare collectable.

yep, maybe I should have stayed in bed today too!

As an aside, Kevin... I will be up your way tomorrow with the High Power guys hopefully. I still havent posted your tool back, should I bring it with me or put it in the post today?

Nah, never a prob with Dave, Matt and the guys... It was the SSAA blokes that I had the problem with.

Looking at shooting the Int. Nat. Match course with my old faithfull No1 then two strings of the Tactical Match, one at 600 and then again at 700 with my lowmount. Will give them your regards, mate!

Back to the op here... I see someone has already confused the poor bugger with talk of tighter headspace for accuracy. I might give him a few GOOD tips on the only way to get benchrest scores from his old milsurps

You got me thinking, Ned... might take the No6 yet.... bit lighter for the standing deliberate matches...nearly a hundred HXP's through it before lunch and then 50 through the Lowmount... glad I'm not a fairy winged nancy pants who is afraid of a shorter, lighter rifle and full power loads. :-)

oooohhhhh I'd like too see that!!!!
Have you done a walk through talk through from start to finish on the accurization on the No1 mK3 yet?
maybe it could be posted in the sticky bit of this.
Your ideas and methods DO work and have a bit of the old about them.
    Cheers

I was going to tell him to trade them in on a Barnard or some other benchie rifle. Only guarentee to get accuracy he's looking for.... if a thou headspace is going to improve it!
Even using the methods described in Jim Sweets books, the humble No1 can be hit and miss (pardon the pun). But, I prefer the old methods, rather than using bog and credit card shims.

Can't someone just say that the whole question has been answered definitively, authoritatively, verse and chapter on the Milsurps forum and he should come over, even if it's just to take a look...................

We have a saying while teaching/instructing soldiers. A play on the saying '.....where there's a will, there's a way' Only we say, where there's a will, there's a difficult way! Sometimes, people just don't get it!

But how many times do we see it? A poster will ask the same question on different forums and only pay attention to the answer he was wanting to hear. Worse still, some will ask the same question, worded differently, on the same forum and ignore everything until he gets the reply he was looking for.
I just asked for a few more on gunboards to confirm the gauge this bloke is buying is wrong... maybe his eyes and ears ARE painted on...

I send as many here as will listen... but I'm afraid something keeps a lot them from walking upright....

All very amusing, NOT! I deal with this almost weekly. They are all more informed than I thanks to all the great, (and FREE), information on the internet so I rarely argue anymore. I DO refuse to sell them bolt heads sometimes if they annoy me too much!! It's back to the saying coined many years ago: "The excessive headspace is between the ears of some American collectors". LOL!!
