If you dont mind me asking what is SRS? If I remember right its Springfield Research Service? If thats correct what exactly do they do?
They maintain records on old firearms, mostly military. It was founded by the late Franklin Mallory, who did most of the research. They publish a magazine called Martial Arms Collector. Subscribers can get direct help with serial number information. They can also obtain (for a fee) copies of the records. They used to sell books and CDs of some of the records, which they haven't done for several years.

For what rifles do they have records? Would they possibly have info on a Garandor Carbine?
Yes, they have records for virtually all kinds of U.S. military firearms going back to the Civil War. Again, on the average, only about 5-10% of each kind are available.

where are the records from? How did SRS obtain them?
Frank Mallory, the founder of SRS, did extensive research in the National Archives and other sources. I don't know if the current owners are continuing or just using what Frank found.

Thats interesting Rick. Would someone be willing to do a check on a couple numbers for me? Just by the off chance something would turn up.
