Weapon Sight, Image Intensified, L1 series question

    Hi Gang,

It seemed for a while there were quite a few of these to be had on evilbay.co.uk, but lately I haven't seen any. Just how rare are they and what's considered a fair price for one?

    Cheers!

I consider them to be as rare as rocking horse sh........., er....... manure! I don't think I ever saw one on Ebay. Value for a complete one, in the box AND in working order would be in excess of £1,000.

A MUST for any true L42 collector. Mind you, these bits of kit are like No4T's and L42's. Always cheap - yesterday!

    Hi Peter,

I'd say about a year to a year & a half ago I saw three of them on e-bay within the course of a couple months, and all in the 500 to 700 pound range. Since then I've come across two from another source both in excess of 1700 pounds. Wish I'd had the tin at the time, eh?

As I understand it, there are still spare parts available for the later ABC variants. Like I always say............, get one now, even if it's a bit of a heap. Someone told me that he repaired the faulty internal focussing and zeroing mechanism in a camera darkroom and it's still perfect. On that basis, there's no reason why you couldn't replace a defective/unserviceable tube in a clean darkroom. You could certainly strip it and clean the internal optical system there

The BEST version of this ist generation of IIW sights was the Oude De Delft (the eye of Delft/Holland) sight from Holland IT was kakhi coloured and powered by two 1.5v torch batteries and was a whole lot shorter than the Rank Precision SS20/L1 sight and the US ANPV 1st gen sight.

Has anyone had one of the 1st gen IIW (Image Intensified Weaponsights), Britishicon (Ex Israeli too, as they had a load) or the US ANPVS2 type or even the Oude de Delft (ex Iraqi/|Iranian had them too) repaired in the US? Maybe it'd help owners if they knew where to have or who can rebuild them. They are optically very simple

Do you still have the user handbook and Training manuals Brian

I see item 1507 2187 1834 on ebay is a new tube for the Rank Pullin SS20 night sight if anyones interested. And at £25 it is fantastic value. But be quick, it's only got a few hours to run.........................
