Talking BPCR reloads for Trapdoor Carbine???

I have some black powder cartridge reloads that I use in my Trapdoor rifle, but they seemed a little too stout for my carbine. I am using a 405 gr. RNFP bullet and 65 grs. of BP. I can remember reading that this was a little too heavy for the short carbines and the government down sized the powder charge. I can't remember what the charge was, can someone help me?

If I down size the charge, I will have to use some form of filler I suppose. I know some of my CAS parts use Cream of wheat, but a friend said there is something much better. If so where can I get some of this stuff?

    Thanks.

55 grs vol 2f ,then what ever the bal. space left over in the case i use c/w and mix it with the 55 2f. works good and can't get any cheeper than c/w. remember as you know ,NO air space left in the loaded case.--charles

Do you use a cookie on top of the BP and then put the C of W and then the bullet?

there are many recipes to make an apple pie.
c/w is mixed in with the powder charge. but it is only used if and when there is air space in the case thet needs tho be taken up.
if .55 gr of 2f +a wad are incerted in the case and there is not enough room for the bullet to be instauled with out compressing the charge,c/w is not nessary.--charles

I use 55 grains of 2F as well, behind a 405 grain cast bullet. I have to use a drop tube and still compress the powder some to fully seat the bullet, no room for wad. I've used vintage brass (U.M.C. SH) and modern Starline. Vintage brass seems to accept more powder. This shot thru a 77 carbine. Cheers, Don
