Need some SKS help

Decided to completely strip my SKS since I never have since owing it.

I took it apart, including the bolt with help from downloaded text and pictures from the internet.

The copy I have says that the firing pin has a spring, inside the bolt. I just do not see how a spring would fit into there along with the pin. I went to Numrich and they do not show a firing pin spring.

Do I have something wierd or did I download some crap from someone who doesn't know squat about the SKS

From the factory SKS does not have a firing pin spring. Very common for military semi-autos, neither does Garand or M1 Carbine. A while back there was a panic after some reported slam fires. There are aftermarket change kits that add a firing pin spring.

My advice: Don't worry. If you reload, use military type primers. If you don't reload, use military surplus ammo if you are worried.

I knew that was the answer but I wanted to confirm with an expert/knowledgeable person.

Just did not seem to be able to fit one in there, close fit between bolt hole and pin.

Only VERY early production Soviet SKS's had a firing pin spring. There is an aftermarket kit that you can buy if you really want one, although I have never personally experienced a slamfire with a variety of ammo. As long as the firing pin channel is kept clean and the pin "rattles" under it's own weight you are GTG. Just don't chamber the same round over and over again as it <may> dent the primer a bit each time and eventually fire.
