found early NS bolt with serial number

I found this early NS bolt with the serial number 401485 could be anything ?

correct but was thinking low number SA or hi number Rock Island or USMC

The Marines did retain their low number rifles, and simply added Hatcher holes - so it could be an early Springfield. But somehow that serial strikes me as more likely a late RIA, in Marine Corps service. And it is Nickel Steel, but it's not a National Match Bolt, with polished cocking ramps, etc, is it? All kinds of possibilities here!

Any more markings on the bolt? More pictures might help our more experienced members narrow down the likely possibilities.

Anyone want to do an SRS check on the Serial Number? If the Marines had owned a rifle with that number, it would sure be interesting. (And if someone here had that rifle, with USMC features, if would be even more interesting!) CC

While I can't rule out the posibility of USMC usage, I will state that the lettering looks different and all the USMC bolts I have and have seen had the number on the top and not in front of the safety lug.

Is there a flaming bomb stamped on the underside of the bolt handle root? I always thought RIA NS bolts were marked as such on the bottom of the safety lug so I'm gonna stick my neck out and say early hand stamped SA NS bolt.

This bolt is without any additional marks. This bolt has one small (3/32 inch) gas escape hole on the left side only.

bolt is an SA made bolt..however, i belive it was used in a RIA receiver.. being that the numbers were done free hand person to person, they shouldnt look the same.

I have seen a good number of 1903 bolts side marked with a serial number,hidden under the extractor when closed.
Most I found were "B2" bolts and I was under the belief they were scribed as such by the USMC.
