Holland & Holland & the No 4 Mk I(T) question

Obviously to many of you who have put up with my many, MANY questions about these rifles, they have become something of a passion of mine. I find it curious though that throughout the many websites and books I have read covering these rifles I have never once seen a photo of the apparatus used to machine the bracket to the pads. HAS anyone on this board ever seen photos of this device? Does anyone have a photo of it they'd be willing to post?

It's called a milling machine with the appropriately shaped cutters for the rear pad and bracket. A shell-mill cutter for the front mounting pad and a pillar drill mounted end mill for the front mounting on the bracket. All set up in jigs and away you go.................. But there was a little more to it than that...........

Wasn't the machine an old lathe bed to which H&H added the needed milling equipment?

You're dead right JM. One day I'll tell the whole process from start to end. Maybe it's time to revamp the sniper book as me and Roger have discussed several times

Yes! The original was awesome, but it would be even better if it were in more detail, larger, had color photos where available, and combined your books on the No4T and No32... Something along the lines of the Collector Grade series. I am sure that it would well, as there is so much more interest in the topic as compared with the 80/90's. Put me down for one.

Well I for one would love to see a second edition! You could add in all those things which people 'helpfully' pointed out after reading the first one - on the basis that they now knew what was in the book plus what they knew before! And then when the 2nd ed comes out the same process could take place.

Seriously though - the internet has allowed so much sharing of information (and simply bringing together like minds) between those people who genuinely love and know all about enfields - in particular snipers. Bring on An Armourers Perspective Part II. (in association with DRP productions).

July 1st eh? Did you choose the date for its particular relevance or was it just one of those coincidence thingies?

Does that mean you might be joining us for the odd Bisley fair then Rog?

    Simon.
