Just acquired Mk IIIB AND sight comparisons

    Hi all:
Just got this War Office Pattern Ross. It's in not bad shape, with the correct P14 type front sight and unique rearsight. It has a rack number stamped on the right side of the butt, which looks like Farsi perhaps--maybe time in the Middle East or India? There is a split along the left side forewood which is not through, and appears to have been caused by a couple of hits with what looks like a screwdriver or chisel maybe--rather odd. The bore is nice. It also has a very small issue stamp on the buttplate tang which I cannot decipher, but is presumably some sort of Britishicon regimental marking.

One can see the inspiration for the backsight of the No1 MkV.
“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”

    Edward Bernays, 1928

Much changes, much remains the same.

    Sight comparison

Surpmils comments are correct, although comparing the two sights, I think the War Office Pattern (or Mk IIIB) rearsight is a better one--less delicate. I took pictures of the Mk IIIB sight and the Lee Enfield Mk V sight for comparison. See below.
