    Bullet in Muzzle

I've used many, many kinds of weapons gauges but never the bullet nose down in the muzzle. How does this look?

Yeah, it looks OK. I've seen a T38 where a 6.5 bullet could be finger pushed entirely down the muzzle, indicating a very worn barrel.

    To get a rough measurement...

Basically correct - assuming, of course, that you have the right bullet. But one can be a bit more precise about it ...

Color over the bullet with a felt-tip marker pen. Allow a minute to dry. Insert bullet in muzzle, press and twiddle. A bright ring will appear on the bullet, and if you measure the diameter of this ring you have a good idea how much rifling is left at the muzzle.
