I don't know much about them other than there are a great deal of counterfeit M1A1 stocks out there. Some of them have been "aged" and to the untrained eye look very real. Cheek piece rivets and metal finish are two things talked about a lot. There were certain serial number blocks where they were produced I believe. Real M1A1 carbines are very expensive. I see you have the same question on the CMP forum as well as here. I don’t know where you will get any better advice than those two places.

I think a great source of information can be gotten form looking at pictures of M1A1’s that have been sold through the CMP auctions as well as the books and forums. The CMP M1A1’s are all genuine parts; use those pictures to compare to some of the stuff on Gun Broker and you will probably be able notice the differences with some of the ones that have been worked over.

Supposedly there are only a few left but consider buying one from the CMP, as least you know where it came from. Some guys like the CMP and others not so much. I bought a couple M1A1’s last year on the old site and I am glad I did. There are not original but they are nice honest carbines.

Whether you buy from the CMP, Gun Broker or privately doesn’t matter. Just watch out you may not be able to stop with only one.

Hi Mike, How are you doing?
I got out my M1A1 to take some pics for you. Be careful and ask questions because like Bill said thare are a lot repros out there and some have been around for along time.
M1A1's bring good money and that leads to bad behavior from some.
There are early and later one's. Mine is early. After I got it out I noticed a crack that is now fixed. Then I decided to do a data sheet on it. Cleaned up the stock and oiled it while I was at it. Should be done in the A.M.

Thanks Rusty, I got it at an estate sale a few years ago in a little town in northern Wi. The add said a paratrooper carbine, I thought it must be a reproduction stock. Then I thought I have to go and find out for sure. Was I surprised when I checked it out. It's a 5.1mil Inland with a 4-44 barrel, in just excellent shape. It's gone through a rebuild but the stock is untouched. Funny, it has the upgrades but it has the spring loaded TH pin. It's also one of my favorites.....Frank

P.S. I have a 262xxx Inland with a 3-43 barrel that would be right at home in that stock.

Just keep looking, I paid $800 for mine a couple of yrs ago on gunbroker. I don't think the seller knew what he had. Although I had to replace lower hinge. I found a NOS one after 6 mo. of looking. A good cleaning and replace check pad [totally gone]. I used brass brakeshoe rivets as they were cheap. $5.00 per hundred, box dated 1952. Anyone need any? GK
