Wow Roger, those are some REALLY rare sniper scopes! I'd love to hear some more about them, for example, which examples are still mated to rifles? Some of them look to be off de-commissioned SMLE snipers from the first world war - those I assume would have no rifle with them.

Do you have any examples that would have been fit to a ShtLE Mk1? Since a scope was fitted to a Long Lee, I have to imagine the Mk1 SMLE must have gotten one too?

Also, any chance you have the folding reticle type scopes for any brit guns? (i.e. the "tubeless scope")

Dr. Payne did an excellent article some years ago in Skennerton's "Collector" magazine on WWI sniping equipment.

I do have quite a few scopes that I've amassed over the years. Mind you I reached the grand old age of 50 a couple of months ago & I started collecting militaria when I was 9, so I guess I've had the time to find it! I have three genuine SMLE snipers complete with scopes, as well as a P'14 F, P'14 T & No3 T A. In addition I have some dismounted ex-SMLE WW1 scopes; aldis/purdey, A5, B4, PPCo., Fuess/PPCo transitional with purdey rings, aldis/H&H, aldis/rigby, Gibbs, & Wm Evans. As you might have gathered I have rather more WW2 4T's, but it's the 1914-18 stuff that really floats my boat.
I used to have Lattey, Gibbs & Neill sights but I never really took to these & eventually parted with them. I'll try & get some pix done of the rifles when I get back from holiday.

Actually, I'm cheating on this one. I sold it last year, but still had some pictures of it! It came back from the Italian campaign & ended up in New Zealand, so I guess a Kiwi liberated it. It was complete with a neat kitbag cut across the fore-end. I never changed the stock as it was original. Scope & bolt are matching. The only non-matching bit was the butt plate -- the original chequered example having been replaced by a standard type. However, I tracked down a real on in the US & fitted it shortly after I acquired the piece in the mid-90's. You are right that the scope is a military contract cad with the long objective housing & detachable snow/rain/glare shield.

Of course, the rarest bit is what's clamped to the muzzle..........!
