    Type 99 rear sight questions

On the Arisake type 99 rifle, if the silde is in the down position (i.e. battle sight) what is the zero range - 100M, 200M 300M or other?

If the sight ladder is up but the slide is as far down as it can go, what is the zero range?

    Thanks in advance

    Walter

The battle sight is supposed to be good for aiming center of mass for a man sized target from 100-300 meters. At the range, this may mean it hits as much as 8 inches high at 100 meters.

The ladder sight ranges from 100 meters to 1500 meters and should be more accurate due to it's smaller size.

Having fired dozens of T99s, I noticed that the battle sights (peep with slide down) almost never coincide with the slide sights if you are shooting for accuracy. If you adjust the front sight windage for the slide's peep, then accuracy is ok. Most of the T99s I fired will zero at 100 yds on the first notch up from the bottom.

You just have to try it and see. I've a couple that have good hunting zeros with the sight down. (1 to 3 " high at 100yds) Others do indeed shoot fairly high. It seems the 150gr loads usually have a lower POI at medium ranges than the 174/180 gr loads.

I don't recall the peep sizes being different. But I usually just pay attention to the front sight...
