Rimmed .303 cartridges had feeding problems in some rifles resulting in several design changes. Rifles with feedng problems were sentenced as EY---not to be used in combat unless there is an emergency. Safety was never an issue unless it is marked DP--Drill Purpose only. General rule, don't fire DP marked rifles.

[/COLOR]I don't want to disagree with Paul (thread 5) but the notion that we would have TWO EY designations doesn't ring quite right to me...... Any rifle with an inherent or defective feed would be sentenced Z (to be scrapped or repaired at a much higher level) or DP'd for Drill Puropse) without a second thought. In UKicon Military service, EY indicates a sub standard rifle fitted with OR suitable for fitting with a cup discharger.

There were cup dischargers for P-14's used in the UK and I have photographed a couple of these for the forum in the past, fitted to their EY P-14 rifles.
