    Two piece firing pins.

Every now and then I read some bad press about these on the 1903s.
    I have two 03a3s and a 1903 MK1 here in Australiaicon.

Was there an issue with the two piece firing pins {anything documented} or is just an old wives tail??.

    Cheers

The 03 firing pin assembly consists of a firing pin rod and a separate striker (the pointed bit which impacts the primer.

The design is a carry over from the Kragicon and the intent was to facilitate the replacement of a broken firing pin (the assumption being that breakage would occur at the tapered point).

The design created a weak point where the firing pin rod and striker join. When the pin breaks it is usually here and not at the point,

Some folks feel the two piece design may "cushion" the FP impact and delay lock time a bit. This might be of important to some match shooters but to the average person its not really a factor.

    Regards,
    Jim
