What's the rifle in the first picture on the left? It sure doesn't look like a M1. Maybe my old eyes are going bad.
It's a Garand. Your looking at the bottom of it.

What about the 10' bayonet? Looks like M1too, not 1905 E5 spear point. I would have thought it would be later in the war, "The Canal" was just about the first thing they did wasn't it? Very strange...

Guadalcanal was used as a training/staging area later in the war. That would account for the equipment shown.
Good point, they didn't say when the pic was taken...
